Jean Shin

Artist Jean Shin is a faculty member and alumna of Pratt Institute and is nationally recognized for her monumental art installations that transform everyday objects into elegant expressions of identity and community.
Chemical Balance, 2005-09
To create this work, thousands of empty prescription pill bottles were collected from nursing homes, pharmacies and individuals’ medicine cabinets
Penumbra, 2003
Rescued from the street after windy storms, broken umbrellas have been deconstructed, reassembled and re-introduced to the outdoor elements
Hide, 2004
Hide is an installation comprised of hundreds of worn leather shoes that have been laboriously deconstructed, paired and then stitched together to form 13 hanging sheets of rich, undulating color
Sound Wave, 2007
Records were melted and sculpted to form a cascading wave, dotted with bursts of colorful labels
